English is an international language, which must be mastered by the students. Studying English language skills is very important. There are some ways of teaching speaking. In this study, the researcher wants to give a whole description of using drama in teaching speaking.
Statement problem: 1) What are the teacher’s preparation to teach speaking by using drama at SMAN I Gondang. 2) How is the process to teach speaking by using drama at SMA N I Gondang? 3) What are the teacher’s problems in teaching speaking by using in teaching speaking by using drama? 5) How are the student’s responses when the teachers speaking by using drama?.
Purposes of research : 1) To know the teacher’s preparation to teaching speaking by using drama, 2) To know the process to teach speaking by using drama at SMA N I Gondang, 3) To know the teacher’s problems in teaching speaking by using drama at SMA N I Gondang, 4) To know how the teacher solves the problem in teaching speaking by using drama, 5) To know the student’s responses when the teacher teaches speaking by using drama.
Research method : 1) Research design used is descriptive qualitative, 2) Subjects of study class X-3 of SMA N I Gondang, 3) Research variable is single variable that is “the use of drama in teaching speakingâ€, 4) Data collecting methods and instruments : a) Interview method with the interview guide, b) Observation method with observation guide, c) Documentation method with documentation guide, 5) Technique of data analysis.
Research finding :
Preparation : a) The teacher is prepared the text of drama, b) The teacher is prepared the scoring guide.
Process : a) The students are introduced about drama, b) The students are given example of drama, c) The students are tried to read the text of drama, d) The teacher is given example how to read the text of drama, e) The students are divided to make eight groups, f) The students group are gotten the theme of drama, g) The students are developed the text of drama using themselves and their group agreement, h) The students are presented their dialogue.
Problem : a) The students are did not had enough English vocabulary, b) The students are had minimum skills about pronunciation, grammar, fluency, intonation and diction, c) The students are confused what they must tell, how to start dialogue, what theme they may choose and whether the theme is interesting or not, d) The students are felt shy, e) The students are felt confuse to apply the grammar in the dialogue.
Solves : a) The teachers are make enjoy condition in the teaching and learning speaking process, b) The teachers are given support and spirit, c) The teachers are given the students task, d) The teachers are given example how to reading the text of drama.
Response : The students are given good respond
