This thesis is designed to improve the student’s mastery on preposition through Total Physical Response (TPR) method at the third year students of SDN 2 Bulusari, Kedungwaru, Tulungagung. Total Physical Response is one of the methods which used in teaching English for foreign language. The researcher was interested in this method to improve student’s mastery on preposition through TPR, because, teaching and learning especially in preposition needs interesting method to attract and give motivation to the students. So, the student’s can enjoy and understand the lesson.
The problem of the research are; (1) how can Total Physical Response (TPR) be used to improve the student’s preposition of the third year students at SDN 2 Bulusari, Kedungwaru, Tulungagung?. (2) how is the student’s response in implementation of Total Physical Response (TPR) to improve the student’s preposition of the third year students at SDN 2 Bulusari, Kedungwaru, Tulungagung?.
The purpose of this research are; (1) to improve the students’ ability in preposition by using Total Physical Response (TPR) at SDN 2 Bulusari, Kedungwaru, Tulungagung. (2) to know the student’s response in implementation of Total Physical Response (TPR) at SDN 2 Bulusari, Kedungwaru, Tulungagung.
The research design in this study was classroom action research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages namely planning, implementing, observation and reflecting. The subject was third year of SDN 2 Bulusari, Kedungwaru, Tulungagung. The instrument which used to collect the data was questionaire, interview, observation sheet, field note and the result of the test in each cycle.
In analyzing the data, the writer used a descriptive qualitative and a simple
quantitative measurement to find the result. The analysis of the data showed that
there was a significant difference of the students’ achievement in the pre-test, cycle 1 and cycle 2. The students’ achievement in the pre-test (44%), in cycle 1 (61%) and in the cycle 2 (83%). The frequency showed that the mastery level of preposition in the first cycle is better than pre-test, and the second cycle is better than the first cycle. The main factor affecting this improvement was the students’ interest in teaching learning process through Total Physical Response.
