Reading is an activity or process in getting information. Reading involves in the interaction between the text and the reader. The reading skill can be improved by selecting appropriate technique in teaching reading, it is hypothesized that scanning technique because scanning technique can facilitate the students’ reading quickly to locate a specific information.
The formulation of the research problems were: (1) How is the students’ reading achievement that are taught without using scanning technique? (2) How is the students’ reading achievements that are taught by using scanning technique? (3) Is there any different significance on the students’ score that are taught by using scanning technique and those are taught without using scanning technique?
The purposes of this study were to: (1) To find out the students’ reading achievement that are taught without using scanning technique? (2) To find out the students’ reading achievement that are taught by using scanning technique? (3) To know whether there are any different significant on the students’ score that are taught by using scanning technique and those are taught without using scanning technique?
Research Method: (1) the research design in this study was experimental design, (2) the population of this study was the eighth grade students at SMPN 3 Kedungwaru Tulungagung, (3) the sample used random sampling, the sample are A class and B class of the eight grade students of SMPN 3 Kedungwaru. There are 22 students in A class and 22 students in B class, (4) the data analysis is done by using statistical analyzing test, the formula T test.
The result shows that the mean of students’ score in reading comprehension without using scanning technique model is 7,77. While the mean of students score in reading comprehension by using scanning technique is 15,04. The Tcount was 5,39 Ttable was 2,02, whereas Ttable with significant level 5% was 2.02. So, Tcount was greater than Ttable. This means that Ha which states that there is significant different score of the students who are taught with and without scanning technique is accepted. Whereas, H0 states that there is no significant different score of the students who are taught with and without scanning technique is rejected. So, scanning technique can be used effective way to teach reading to the students at Junior High School level.
